CBD FOR YOUR PETS!!
Seizures, arthritis, joint pain, anxiety, bowel disease, inflammation – our pets suffer from many of the same ailments and discomforts that we do. CBD can help your pets too.
When I first met Marven, my client’s 12-year-old chocolate lab, he raised his head a little bit to look me over, but then back down it went. I knelt next to his bed to say hello and give him some gentle rubs on the head. His tail started wagging like crazy. You could tell this guy wanted to get up, but his tail was pretty much all that was moving. My client said that Marven had been diagnosed with arthritis, acommonly found condition in senior dogs. After all, he was 84! (in dog years). I asked my client if she had ever tried CBD for her pets?
A few months later, I made another house call. This time Marven met me at the door! Wagging tail and all! Since last we’d spoke, my client had been giving Marven IBW’s specially formulated CBD oil Spirit Animal Tincture as well as CBD dog treats. “We haven’t seen him like this in years,” she said. "He wants to play again!"
As we’ve talked about before, CBD is great for pain management and inflammation. More and moreresearch is showing that CBD is found to have anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, and therefore a formidable anti-arthritic.
And the encouraging results from research on CBD for pets keeps coming:
“A new pharmacokinetic and clinical study recently completed at Cornell University suggests that 2 mg/kg of cannabidiol (CBD) oil twice daily can help increase comfort and activity in dogs with osteoarthritis.”
Check our handy chart for suggested CBD pet servings. The USA does not treat CBD as a dietary supplement. This information has not been approved by any federal agency. This is based on our experience and observations working with animals. More research needs to be done. It is always best to split the serving size over smaller doses throughout the day. Try breaking a CBD dog bone into 1/4's to start. DOSING is dependent upon dog size, disease, and symptoms and we recommend the standard "start low and go slow" slogan for animals too.
CBD interacts with the body via the endocannabinoid system, or ECS. The ECS is a biological system found in all mammals and is involved in managing a wide variety of biological processes, including memory, sleep, immune response, and more. CBD indirectly affects the endocannabinoid receptors, which are located in both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system as well as 65 other molecular targets with in the body.
And relief from arthritis is just one of the many reasons people are giving CBD to their furry friends. Other CBD Benefits Include:
Analgesic, Bone Stimulant, Neuroprotectant, Neurogenesis, Immunosuppressive, Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Nausea, Anti-Cancer, Anti-Bacteria, Anti-Oxidant, Anti-Anxiety, Anti-Depressant, Anti-Psychotic, Anti-Convulsant.
Of course, the same advice we give to all of our two-legged patients goes for our four-legged ones as well: start slow, work your way up, and involve your vet. Please check with your pet's Vet, and be especially careful if they are taking any medication.
